Q&A with Mark Harrington
Tell us about your business:
I own The Junkluggers and Remix Market Warrenton. We remove unwanted items from homes and businesses.
What inspired you to start your business?
I spent 20 years in the IT world, with the last 12 years as Vice President of Business Development, where I helped a company grow from $1 million to over $100 million. When the company sold, I had some time to figure out my next step. I was always inspired by my dad and friends who were small business owners, so I set out to make The Junkluggers the best in the business in my hometown.
What sets your business apart from others in your industry?
Without a doubt, it’s the Remix Market component of my junk business. When I first started operating in 2019, we tried donating all usable items to local charities. I was disappointed when perfectly good items were turned away by donation partners, so I decided to truly live our mission of keeping items out of the landfill. That’s when I opened my own 5,000 sq. ft. donation facility, Remix Market. Remix is a fun and funky thrift store where 80% of the items from our pick-ups are curated and sold. A portion of the proceeds supports my charity partner, The Sweet Julia Grace Foundation.
What do you love most about the work you do?
Engaging with the clients we help every day. It’s a fascinating job, and no two days are alike. Last year, we helped over 1,500 families and businesses declutter and remove stress from their lives.
Why do you believe it’s important to be involved with the Chamber and the local business community?
The Chamber has always been supportive of local businesses. It’s a great place to leverage the collective energy, imagination, and support of the local business community.
