‘Tis the season to help local nonprofits provide happy holidays for all in our community. Here are some ideas of ways you can help spread holiday cheer.

Recovery Program Solutions of Virginia

Join RPSV’s first-ever Cookie Walk for the Homeless! It’s as easy as 1-2-3!  Simply… 1) sign up to donate a variety of cookies in sealed containers. 2) deliver your cookies to our centers between December 7-12th just in time for our holiday parties where we will be distributing them. 3) help create a special (and tasty) memory for homeless adults or for individuals who are alone during the holidays.

Looking for an immediate, powerful, and meaningful way to help the homeless this holiday season? Recovery Program Solutions of Virginia (RPSV) is in urgent need of warm clothing and coats in adult sizes, gloves, scarves, hats, hand warmers, blankets, and sleeping bags for those without a home in our community. We also need belts. With this extraordinarily cold weather, the need is urgent and exceptional! You are welcome to bring items by our program sites across the county (we are located in Annandale, Merrifield, Reston, and South County Alexandria). You can find our centers here: Recovery Centers – Recovery Program Solutions of Virginia (rpsva.org). For more information, please call (800) 374-4198.

The Koinonia Foundation

The Koinonia Foundation is once again helping those in the community who need help preparing a special holiday meal Last year, Koinonia provided more than 100 baskets of food at Thanksgiving and again at Christmas to area families, individuals, and our senior citizen clients. The baskets were given out of the generosity of so many, and received with thanks and delight. To donate a Holiday basket, please click on the link below. It will help us greatly to know how many baskets we can expect when we are organizing the distribution of the baskets.
When: Monday, December 19th – Donor basket drop-off between 6:00am – 8:00am
Where: The Journey Church, 6427 Franconia Rd, Springfield, VA 22150
We are accepting single size baskets to feed a family of four (4). Sign up to provide a holiday food basket by clicking here. Download a list of suggested items by clicking here. from the link provided below.

United Community

Preparing for the holiday season is a stressful time for everyone, but for families struggling to provide necessities, there is added worry about providing gifts for their children. United Community is making Christmas merrier for families in our region by providing gift cards to 700 children. You can support these families by donating $30 gift cards from Target or Walmart. You can mail or drop off gift cards now through December 9, 2022, at our main office at 7511 Fordson Road, Alexandria, Va, or make a gift to United Community. Click here to make an online donation.
