CAN the Bird 5K

Bring a CANned food item and join us for the 6th annual CAN the Bird 5K Turkey Trot, presented by Jefferson Funeral Chapel and Federal Realty on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 26, 8:00 – 9:00 am. The race will begin and end in the Walmart parking lot, 5885 Kingstowne Boulevard, Alexandria, VA 22315.

All ages can enjoy a run, walk or stroll around Kingstowne and its scenic lake.

Registrants will receive a commemorative race t-shirt and swag/deals from our sponsors.

Donations of nonperishable food items will be accepted for The Koinonia Foundation. We are thankful to have food to share.

Registration will be available up to the morning of the race. Late registration and packet pickup will be available the morning of the race.

Tuesday, 11/24, 2-7 pm

Wednesday, 11/25 2-5 pm

Registrants will receive a commemorative race t-shirt and swag/deals from our sponsors.

Awards will be given to the top three overall male and female finishers, top 3 male and female finishers in 12 & Under and 13-18 age groups. Plus fastest male and female runner with dog and fastest male and female runner with stroller will receive an award.

Donations of nonperishable food items will be accepted by local food banks.

VOLUNTEER

As with any community event, CTB5K’s success relies on volunteer support. If you want to begin Thanksgiving by giving back to a community that provides so much (and you don’t want to run or walk), please join us at the START/FINISH LINE on November 26th to assist in any of the following areas (CLICK HERE TO VOLUNTEER):

SET-UP – Help us first thing on Thanksgiving to prepare the staging area before participants arrive.
CABOOSE – Ensure the very last participant does not get left behind, by taking up the rear and collecting the course signs along the way (if possible).
COURSE MARSHALS – Be available along the route to ensure runners and walkers are going the right way, are safe from any vehicular traffic, and are motivated to finish what they started.
DONATION COLLECTION – Gather non-perishable food donations brought to the race.
FINISH LINE SUPPORT – Track the bib numbers of both MALE and FEMALE participants with dogs and strollers to assist with our awards.
PHOTOGRAPHY – Help us document the Kingstowne community coming together – the participants, volunteers, and sponsors.
PACKET PICKUP / Distribute race packets and t-shirts to participants before race day.
REFRESHMENTS – Hand out race bibs, shirts and bags to registered runners before the race start, then transform the tables to offer refreshments for those finishing the 5K.
WATER STOP – Offer water to participants along the course.
CLEAN UP – Help us all celebrate Thanksgiving with our families sooner, by returning the Walmart parking lot back to how we found it.
